KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Alex Sylvester of Marian University (Ind.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Sylvester was selected based on his performances from Jan. 16 - 22 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - In a defensive slugfest, Grace's women's basketball team pulled off the major upset of top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan and handed the Wildcats their first conference loss of the season with a 41-39 victory on Wednesday.

The Lady Lancers (14-9; 6-5 MCC) could only hit one-quarter of their shot attempts in the game, but they put on a defensive clinic in holding the Wildcats (21-2; 10-1 MCC) to 20 or fewer points in each half.

Taylor University athletic director Dr. Angie Fincannon has announced the launch of women's golf, the 16th intercollegiate sport at Taylor, beginning in the fall of 2012. Women's golf will become a championship sport in the Mid-Central College Conference starting with the 2012-13 season.

The program will be led by Cameron Andry. Currently in his first season at the helm of the Taylor men's golf team, Andry will lead both programs next season as a full-time coach and assistant sports information director.

MARION, Ind. -- There are a lot of things George Jones IV can do on the basketball court and he showcased nearly every single one of them on Tuesday night as Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball pulled off the 82-74 upset of No. 4-ranked Grace (Ind.) College.

And Jones IV used one of his best all-around performances in front of a raucous Luckey Arena on Black Out Night. The junior guard shot 7-of-7 from the floor for a game-high 16 points along with a game-best seven rebounds.

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team is the new No. 1 of No. 1-rankings.

Indiana Wesleyan is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Division II polls for the sixth consecutive week and for the 20th time in program history. Indiana Wesleyan surpasses Morningside (Iowa) College for the all-time record of weeks spent at the No. 1 spot. Hastings (Neb.) College is third all-time spending 13 weeks at the top of the poll.
