Kayla Drake
has been chosen NAIA Division II Player of the Week and Mid-Central
College Conference women's Player of the Week after leading the Lady
Cougars to two wins on the road against NAIA Top 25 teams last week.
Drake (Kokomo, Ind. / Kokomo H.S.) averaged 21 points, seven rebounds,
4.0 steals and 3.5 assists per game in the two wins at No. 23 Marian and
No. 16 Grace. She shot 50 percent from 3-point range hitting 5-of-10
3-point shots.
Drake scored 12 of her 19 pts in the second half in USF win at No. 16
Grace for USF's third straight MCC road win. In USF's win at No. 23
Marian, Drake scored 17 points in the second half. Drake's 23 points at
Marian was the fifth 20-plus game in her first 10 with USF. She did
sustain a broken bone in her ankle late in the game at Grace that may
prevent her from playing the rest of the season. She had transferred
from IPFW and became eligible at the end of the first semester of
classes at USF.
She is averaging 19.0 ppg with a high of 25 points in her first game with USF. She's shooting .377 from 3-point range.
The Lady Cougars play at NAIA No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan on Wed., Jan. 18
at 5:30 p.m. in Marion, Ind. This game was originally scheduled for 7
p.m., but has been changed to 5:30 p.m. by IWU.
