28th-Annual Women's Tennis Tournament slated for Mobile, Ala.
Official Tournament Bracket | Championship Central
Kansas City, Mo. - The
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released
the bracket for the 2008 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship
Tournament. A total of 24 teams from 13 regions will compete for the
championship. The Mobile Tennis Center, located in Mobile, Ala., will host the 28th annual event.
Auburn
Montgomery received the top seed in the tournament following a 30-0
season and region XIII championship. The Lady Senators have dominated
the tournament in recent years and hope to capture their fifth
consecutive NAIA Championship.
Tournament
play begins Monday, May 12 with unseeded qualifiers facing off. First
round winners will advance to take on the eight seeded qualifiers
consisting of: No. 1 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.); No. 2 Fresno Pacific (Calif.); No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.); No. 4 Vanguard (Calif.); No. 5 Azusa Pacific (Calif.); No. 6 California Baptist; No. 7 Berry (Ga.) and No. 8 Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.).
Second
round play will take place on Tuesday, May 13 with winners moving on to
quarterfinal action Wednesday, May 14. The tournament semifinals are
set for Thursday May 15 and the championship match will take place on
Friday May 16.
Note: Start times for the matches will be 9 a.m. with the exception of the championship, which will begin at 10 a.m.
