INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce two additions to its coaching staff. Stephen Baldwin has been tapped to lead the four-time Mid-Central College Conference champion men's tennis program while Cassie Lomison will lead the women's tennis program, which reached the final of the 2008 NAIA Region VIII Tournament. This is the first time in Marian College athletics history that the two programs will be advised by separate coaches.

"We are very pleased to add such fine coaches to lead our successful tennis programs," said Director of Athletics Joe Haklin. "Coach Todd Bacon has done a masterful job of building both teams into a highly-respected program in the Midwest. Coach Bacon will now devote his talents to other areas within our expanding athletic department. I am sure that our new tennis leaders, Stephen Baldwin and Cassie Lomison will continue to build on the winning tradition established by Coach Bacon."

Baldwin will be entering his first head coaching position after numerous years of private tennis coaching. As a high school player, before enlisting in the Indiana Army National Guard in 1989, Stephen was a four-year letterwinner who earned All-Conference accolades in three of his seasons at Crawfordsville High School. Baldwin was also a part of three Sectional championship-winning teams. In his nine-year stint with the Indiana Army National Guard, Baldwin served as an Administrative Specialist for nine years and has continued his service as a Contract Specialist with the Indiana Air National Guard since 2004.

Stephen is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration from Indiana Institute of Technology in 2001 and earned associate degrees in contracts management (2007) and financial management (2006) from the Community College of the Air Force. Baldwin is married to his wife of 14 years, Suzie, and has three children, A.J. (12), Dane (10), and Reilley (7). The family resides in Waveland, Indiana.

"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," said Baldwin. "Coach Bacon has established a strong core of returners and incoming freshmen and I am looking forward to building upon the foundation he has built over the past four seasons."

Lomison will be entering her first head coaching position after a stellar college career and the creation of a successful business enterprise. She will also serve as the administrative assistant for the Department of Athletics. Cassie was a four-year letterwinner at Milligan College (Tenn.) and was named Appalachian Athletic Conference Sportswoman of the Year award as a senior. She went 48-18 at No. 1 singles during her four seasons and was named NAIA Region XII Player of the Year as a junior. Cassie was the conference runner-up at No. 1 singles in 2003 and 2004 and earned AAC championships at No. 1 doubles in 2003 and 2005. She was also named the 2006 NAIA ITA/Arthur Ashe Leader and Sportsmanship Award-winner in 2006.

Cassie has been coaching tennis since her junior season and continues playing in leagues in Indianapolis. She is a USPTA certified instructor and owns her own tennis business, Cassie's Tennis Clinics. Additionally, Cassie has served as the assistant coach for boy's and girl's tennis at Mt. Vernon High School since graduation and spent one year as the Director of Communications at Horizon International in Pendleton, Indiana. She graduated from Milligan College (Tenn.) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in communications and currently resides in Greenfield, Indiana.

"This is a great opportunity for me," said Lomison. "It has always been my dream to teach tennis at the collegiate level, especially for an NAIA institution. Since I played, I know what it takes to get to Nationals and I believe with the foundation established by Coach Bacon, we will be able to build on that success. Through experience, I believe I have gained the confidence to know that I can teach strategies and techniques to the ladies at this level. I am very excited."

The Marian College men's tennis program won back-to-back Mid-Central College Conference regular season championships in 2005-06 and 2006-07 (co). The Knights were also co-champions at the 2006-07 MCC Tournament and went 32-5 against MCC opponents over the last four seasons. The Knights qualified for the NAIA Region VIII Tournament in each of the past three seasons and were the runners-up in 2005-06. The Knights earned a runner-up finish in the 2007-08 campaign with an 12-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in conference play.

The Marian College women's tennis program has been resurrected under the tutelage of Coach Bacon. The Knights have gone 44-19 over the last four years including a 25-10 mark in MCC play. The Knights have been the conference runners-up in each of the past two seasons and earned NAIA Region VIII Tournament bids in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
