Taylor University volleyball freshman Betsy Brown added to her list of accomplishments Monday after being named a 2008 NAIA All-America Honorable Mention selection.
A setter from Adrian, Michigan, Brown was one of just three freshmen out of 72 players honored with All-American status by the NAIA.
At the conclusion of Taylor's MCC championship season last month, Brown was named MCC Setter of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Late last week Brown was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association NAIA All-Mideast Region Team.
Throughout this season, Brown was named Mid-Central College Conference Setter of the Week six times, on her way to leading the MCC in assists. She ended the season ranked twenty-third in the nation in assists per set.
Evolving into a complete player throughout her rookie season, Brown recorded 1382 assists, 374 digs, 71 blocks, 59 kills, and 23 service aces in 37 matches played.
Brown becomes the thirteenth All-American in Taylor volleyball history and just the second freshman to achieve the high honor.
"We are so proud of Betsy for receiving this honor," said Taylor head coach Brittany Huyser Smith. "Betsy is an extremely tough competitor and her focus has always been on getting better for the team. She is very deserving of All-American status, and this is such a positive way for her to conclude her freshman season. We're looking forward to many more great things from Betsy."
Taylor (32-8) concluded their championship season ranked 25th in the final NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
