The Spring Arbor University baseball team clinched another MCC regular season title with a pair of convincing victories over Bethel College on the road in Mishawaka, Indiana on Wednesday.

After going down 1-0 in the opening frame of the opener, SAU blew the game open with six runs in the top of second and ten more in the top of the fourth, eventually cruising to a 19-5 five inning victory.

The Cougars sprayed a whopping 20 hits on Pilot pitchers Chad Emberton and Chris Zart. Leading the charge for SAU were Justin Forster, Brad Baker and Jeff Hollister who each tallied three hits in the first contest. Andy Paulun, Jesse Bachman, Zach Rediker and Jon Herbig each notched two hits, while Paulun, Bachman and Eric Vojtkofsky each drove in three runs in the opening contest.

In an offensive showpiece for Spring Arbor, Paulun was also solid on the mound, throwing all five innings and allowing eight Pilot hits while fanning five batters. Paulun picked up his sixth win of the 2009 campaign with the effort, improving his overall record to 6-1.

Game two also saw Spring Arbor jump out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and two more in each the second and third to put the game virtually out of reach with a 8-0 cushion. The Cougars leaked a couple of runs late and scored one more of their own in the top of the sixth to make the final score 9-3.

SAU was once again successful hitting Pilot pitching, as the Cougars sprayed nine hits of a trio of Bethel pitchers. Bachman was the player of note for SAU with an impressive 4 for 5 performance that included an RBI and a pair of doubles. Eric Vojtkofsky hit his second homerun of the day in the nightcap, and finished the game with a team leading four RBI's.

Colin O'Connell went the distance on the mound for Spring Arbor, giving up eight hits and striking out a pair of batters in seven innings of work. O'Connell improved to 3-2 on the year with the win.

Spring Arbor will round out their MCC schedule on Saturday when they travel to Upland, Indiana to take on the Taylor University Trojans. Game one of the double header is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
