The Taylor women's doubles team of Kristin Goeke and Kaiti Marsh captured the doubles championship at the 2009 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Cedarville, Ohio. The two seniors defeated Aline Mariano and Katelyn Rodgers of Ohio Dominican by the final count of 8-6.
In 12 doubles matches this season, Goeke and Marsh remain undefeated at 12-0.
For Taylor head coach Dara Syswerda, the win marked the first time in her 11-year Taylor coaching career to send a doubles team to the ITA National Championships.
"It was great to see these two seniors play up to the potential I have always known they've had, when it really counted" Syswerda said. "They've been right there so many times in the past and this time they stepped up and finished it."
As the No. 1 singles seed in the tournament, Germania Bedon was unable to defend her ITA Regional title from a year ago. The sophomore was defeated 6-2, 6-1 in Saturday's championship match to Paolo Usina of Marian (Ind.). The loss marked Bedon's first of the season with a 12-1 overall record.
Taylor took home its second doubles championship of the day when Bedon and Susanne Johnson claimed the title in the consolation bracket by defeating Lauren Becher and Abby Enteman of IU-Southeast, 8-6.
In 22 total matches over the weekend, Taylor finished the three-day event with a 9-5 record in singles action and posted a 7-1 mark in doubles competition.
Taylor (6-2, 4-1 MCC) will return to the court Thursday, Sept. 24 at Marian (Ind.).
