The Intercollegiate Tennis Association held it's 2009 National Small College Championships in Mobile, Ala., last week.
 
Three Mid-Central College Conference representatives from Taylor, Marian and Huntington took part in the three-day event. Each participant was guaranteed three matches and then was placed 1-8 based on their results.
 
Taylor's Kristin Goeke and Kaiti Marsh lost their first two matches in the doubles bracket before topping William Jewell's (Mo.) Nikki Chambers and Tanya Ratana (6-3, 6-2) for seventh place.
 
Their first round lost to Adriana Gonzalez and Giuliana Gonzalez from McKendree University (Ill.) snapped a 19-match win streak for Goeke/Marsh and was their first loss of the season.
   
Marian's Paola Usina dropped all three matches in the women's singles bracket for eighth place in the tournament. Usina forced McKendree's (Ill.) Adriana Gonzalez to three sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) in the first round but fell in straight sets in her final two matches.
   
Gonzalo Vivas of Huntington took sixth place in the men's singles bracket. Vivas lost his first round match in three sets to Renardy Guelfi of Oklahoma Christian, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. He advanced to the fifth-place match on a withdraw by his opponent before falling to top seeded Remy Caffardo of Graceland (Iowa) by the scores of 6-2, 6-4.
