KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rachel Kenney of Marian has been named the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Kenny was selected based on her performances from Jan. 4 - 10. She was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 14 conferences.
Kenney, a 5-11 sophomore forward, helped power the previously unranked Knights past a pair of nationally ranked MCC opponents last week. Kenney recorded 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half, as Marian took down then-No. 10 Taylor 85-66. She then posted a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 boards as the Knights rolled to a 92-76 win over then-No. 15 Bethel.
The two wins helped propel Marian (12-6, 4-1) to No. 14 in Monday's national poll.
The Mooresville, Ind., native is averaging 12.1 points per contest and is shooting 67.3 percent from the floor.
