Four MCC women's basketball teams shifted spots in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 with a new squad joining the ranks and a familiar stakeholder dropping out. Despite the shifts the league remains tied for the most teams in the top 25 (Great Plains Athletic Conference, 4).
Indiana Wesleyan continues to hold its spot in the top 10, but fell three spots to No. 7 after an overtime loss to unranked Taylor last week. It was the Wildcats' first conference loss of the season as they sit at 19-4, 18-1 MCC.
Saint Francis (13-9, 7-2) showed the most improvement of any team in the league jumping seven spots to No. 14. The Cougars' highest ranking of the season is a result of a four-game winning streak, including an overtime win over then ranked No. 15 Bethel in overtime, 88-83, last week.
After receiving votes in every poll this season, Huntington (14-6, 5-3) is one of three new entries in the top 25 this week. The Foresters nearly tripled their previous high vote total grabbing 169 points and checking in at No. 23. The move comes after topping then No. 24 Marian and then No. 15 Bethel last week.
Splitting a pair of league matchups last week, Marian (14-8, 6-3) holds steady at No. 24 and is the only MCC school in the top 25 to remain unchanged. The Knights have now been recognized in three consecutive polls peaking at No. 14 on Jan. 11.
With the losses to Saint Francis and Huntington, Bethel (16-7, 5-4) made the most dramatic shift in the polls falling from No. 15 to the receiving votes section. The Pilots began the year at No. 8 in the preseason poll, but have dropped places in five of the six polls this season.
Taylor (13-7, 5-4) continues to receive votes this week, but has collected its lowest point total of the season (18).
The top two spots remain unchanged as Davenport (Mich.) took 14 first-place votes and Hastings (Neb.) was awarded two for the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, respectively.
