Men's basketball coaches across the Mid-Central College Conference will be participating in the annual "Suits and Sneakers" initiative this Saturday, Jan. 30 during regularly scheduled league contests.
Sporting basketball shoes with the usual sideline attire, "Suits and Sneakers" is one of four annual events put on by the National Association of Basketball Coaches' "Coaches vs. Cancer" foundation to raise awareness for the fight against cancer.
"The NABC has done an excellent job raising awareness and money for cancer research over the years through the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative," MCC commissioner J.D. Collins said. "I am proud that our conference is contributing to this effort at the NAIA level."
Established in 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer was founded by former University of Missouri head coach and cancer survivor, Norm Stewart, to unite college and high school coaches in the cause. Since its inception, coaches, schools and basketball programs across the country have raised nearly $45 million dollars for the American Cancer Society.
This weekend all nine MCC institutions will participate in the event and hold varying fundraisers and donation opportunities to benefit local chapters of the ACS.
