Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor posted season high marks in the latest NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll released Monday by the national office.
The Wildcats take over the top spot in the MCC despite a seven point loss at Bethel last week. Indiana Wesleyan (20-4, 8-2) has moved up from an unranked squad four weeks ago to the No. 5 position this week. The torrid rise comes as a result of winning 15 of its last 16 games including a 14-game winning streak.
After peaking at No. 6 last week, Saint Francis slides back to No. 8. The Cougars (20-5, 8-3) have won five of their last six games but faltered against then-No. 23 Spring Arbor last week.
Bethel joins one of just three schools to hold its position this week sticking at No. 9. On a three-game winning streak the Pilots (20-4, 8-3) are returning to their winning ways after dropping two straight.
Continuing its pattern of self-inflicted wounds, the MCC contributed two of the nine losses among the top 10 teams.
Tying its season's best five-game winning streak, Spring Arbor cracks the top 20 for the first time after being ranked in all seven regular season polls this year. The Cougars (19-6, 8-3) defeated then-No. 6 Saint Francis last week and moved up four spots to No. 19.
Spring Arbor is involved in two top 25 clashes this week as they host No. 9 Bethel on Tuesday and travel to No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
With the absence of any team in the receiving votes section of the polls, the four MCC schools are the fewest total to represent the league on the charts this year. Huntington, Goshen and Grace have all been recognized at least once before this week.
Despite having its NAIA-record 39-game winning streak snapped by then-No. 19 Bellevue, Oklahoma Wesleyan remains atop the NAIA poll.
