MARION, Ind. -- Senior center Zach Coverstone has once again moved his name into elite company in Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball history.
Coverstone became just the second Wildcat to ever collect 1,000 career rebounds when he did so in a 17 rebound performance in an 80-75 victory over Marian (Ind.) University on Saturday. He now stands alone with Indiana Wesleyan legend Perry Frank (1983-86) in the 1,000 rebound club.
"Zach Coverstone embodies everything that the coaching staff wants IWU Basketball to be all about," said Indiana Wesleyan assistant coach Jeff Clark. "He has brought maximum effort and character to our program every day that he has been at Indiana Wesleyan. His 1,000th rebound is a testament to the consistency of his work ethic over the past four years."
The Columbia City, Indiana native already holds every Indiana Wesleyan record in blocked shots with eight in a single game, 77 in a season and 264 in his career. He also sits eighth in program history with 1,704 career points and has 268 career assists.
Coverstone is currently fifth in NAIA Division II with 272 Total Rebounds, seventh in Defensive Rebounds per Game at 6.9 rebounds and 12th in Total Rebounds per Game at 9.7 rebounds.
He has 15 games of double digit rebounds this season and has led Indiana Wesleyan in rebounds in 21 of 28 games. Coverstone set a career high with 20 rebounds earlier this year in a victory over Grace (Ind.) College on January 16, 2010.
On the season, Coverstone is averaging 18.5 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.8 blocks while shooting 57.2-percent from the field.
"Zach has always placed a priority on winning over personal accomplishments or statistics, so our program could not be more excited to see him achieve this milestone," said Clark.
Indiana Wesleyan is currently ranked No. 5 in NAIA Division II with a 23-5 record. IWU leads the Mid-Central College Conference with an 11-3 record and only two games remaining in the regular season.
