Often overlooked by the competition but always counted on by the Pilots, Bethel senior Wes Laidig recently accomplished something few basketball players get the opportunity to do and once again it was almost overlooked.

Back on January 16, Wes became the 50th member of Bethel basketball's 1000 point club. On that afternoon, Laidig's monster 25 point, nine rebound effort was overshadowed by Bethel's disappointing loss at Taylor University.

What's so amazing about Laidig's accomplishments is that he has done it mostly coming off the bench his entire career. Know as a "super sub", Laidig played behind one of Bethel's all-time greats, William Walker.

A great player in his own right, Laidig has made the most of his 17 starts this season as he is averaging 12.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the No. 12 ranked Pilots.

"Scoring over a 1,000 points is a tremendous accomplishment," said Head Coach Mike Lightfoot. "For Wes to reach this milestoneas a man off the bench most of his career is a tribute to his effort and desire."

This past Tuesday, the Bethel faithful were reminded of Laidig's accomplishments as he helped the Pilots avenge the loss to Taylor earlier in the season. Laidig and four other seniors all scored in double figures on senior night as the Pilots began their push for the post season.

Often overlooked, Laidig is determined to add a few more accomplishments to his already storied Bethel career.
