In day two of first round action at the men's and women's NAIA national basketball championships, the two men's squads advanced while the two women's squads bowed out leaving the MCC with five representatives in the sweet sixteens.
 
On the men's side, Spring Arbor recorded the second biggest upset at Point Lookout, Mo., thus far while Indiana Wesleyan dominated its first round opponent. On the women's side, Huntington and Taylor each fell to higher seeded opponents
 
In the first game of the day Spring Arbor knocked off Northwood (Fla.) 58-57. On the back of D.J. Baisden's 18 points and go-ahead lay up in the game's final seconds, the Cougars advance to the Sweet Sixteen to take on IU Southeast. That game will tip-off at 1 p.m. EST on Friday. Indiana Wesleyan played like the MCC Champions that they proved to be routing Virginia-Wise 81-56. The Wildcats forced 22 Cavalier turnovers coupled with 50% shooting from the floor and 40% from the three point line on the offensive end. Will Hubertz led all scorers with 17 points. The women did not fare as well in Sioux City, Iowa, posting two losses on the second day of first round action.
 
Huntington forced Sterling (Kan.) to 33% shooting from the field but could not come up with the win as they fell 61-52. Sarah Miller led the Foresters with 16 points and 10 rebounds. [Complete Game Recap]
 
Taylor posted the largest margin of defeat of any MCC school losing at the hands of Cedarville (Ohio), 75-50. The Yellow Jackets took an early 13-0 lead and never looked back hitting seven three pointers in the first half. Allison Reece led the way for the Trojans with 13 points. [Complete Game Recap]
