Spring Arbor's Thompson Grabs Career Vicorty #600
The Spring Arbor University softball team picked up a pair of much needed victories and helped head coach Deb Thompson to a career milestone in the process over the weekend.

The nightcap was a historic win for SAU head coach Deb Thompson, as the long time mentor recorded her 600th career victory.

"God has blessed me with great players throughout the years and reaching 600 wins is more a testament to their hard work than my coaching," commented Thompson. "I am thankful for each of them and what they have brought to our program throughout the years."

The Cougars blew past visiting Fisher College (MA) in a pair of games, outscoring the Falcons 37-2 in a pair of games that went just five innings each due to the mercy rule.

Game one saw Spring Arbor race out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and put the game clearly out of reach with a ten run second frame which stretched their lead to 14-0. A pair of runs in each the third and the fourth were just icing on the cake as the Cougars breezed to an 18-0 landslide win.

Kelsey Johnson and Ashley Boland led the Cougars at the dish, racking up four hits each. Johnson also recorded a team high four RBI's in the opener.

Chelsea Brancheau returned to action in the circle after an injury which had been hampering her play for the past week and a half. Brancheau pitched two innings and allowed one hit while striking out three before giving way to Kristi Hoffenbacher who struck out two batters and allowed a pair of hits in three innings of work.

Game two was much the same as the first, as after starting pitcher Cassie Schiller coughed up a pair of runs in the opening frame, the Cougars settled in and outscored the Falcons 19-0 over the next four innings to earn their second straight whitewash win at 19-2.

Abby Adams grabbed four hits to lead the Cougars in the nightcap, while Debbie England, Kelsey Johnson and Ashley Boland grabbed three hits each. Brancheau and Johnson knocked in four runs each and Schiller drove in three.

In the circle Schiller allowed just three hits and fanned eight Falcon batters in five innings of work.
