The Taylor University athletic department has named Jon Cavanagh as head golf coach for the Trojans. A 1998 Taylor graduate, Cavanagh played his prep golf at Bowling Green High School (Ohio) and has been a student of the game for the past twenty years.

Having served as the residence hall director of Wengatz Hall on Taylor's campus since 2007, Cavanagh has also spent time in student development at Asbury College (Ky.) and Northwestern College (Iowa). While at Northwestern, he was the Red Raiders' assistant men's soccer coach and helped guide the team to a record of 13-7-1 in his final season.

Cavanagh's anticipation for the coming season is evident. "I'm excited about the opportunity to challenge the young men on our team to aggressively, thoughtfully and joyfully pursue excellence in their lives, whether it is golf, their studies or their faith. We have tremendous potential to take a step forward as a program and compete as we work towards pursuing excellence in our lives."

In 2008, Cavanagh earned his Master of Divinity from Winebrenner Theological Seminary, and has gone on to become an ordained minister in the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches. From 2004 to 2007, Cavanagh served as the Associate Pastor at Plain Congregational Church in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Taylor athletic director Dr. Angie Fincannon is looking forward to Cavanagh joining the TU athletic staff. "Jon Cavanagh brings to Taylor Athletics a unique set of leadership skills that will work very well as the head coach of the golf team.  His enthusiasm for coaching the team will lead to a new and exciting vision for the program.  I anticipate he will continue to build upon Coach Ochs' work with the program."

Cavanagh takes over the Taylor golf program for former coach Jon Ochs, who led the Trojan golfers each of the last seven seasons. Ochs continues in his role as Media Services Manager at Taylor.
