Spring Arbor University head baseball coach Sam Riggleman will be honored at the American Baseball Coaches Association national convention in January after being selected as one of two ABCA Ethics in Coaching Award recipients.
Riggleman, who is his 35th year as a head coach, has been a mentor for the Spring Arbor University baseball team for the past nine seasons and also serves SAU as the Director of Athletics.
Riggleman sports a 207-99 record as head coach of the Cougars and holds a career mark of 853-548-2 as a collegiate head coach.
The ABCA believes that the highest calling of a baseball coach is to teach life lessons and model the character traits of honesty, integrity, respect and personal responsibility and that a coach's moral and ethical conduct both on and off the field deeply influences players. The ABCA Ethics in Coaching Award Committee chaired by Tom O'Connell believes that Riggleman and fellow recipient Steve Farley (Butler University) best represent these principles.
"I am deeply honored to be selected for this honor, as I believe it to be one of the most vital recognitions that a coach can receive. I am both humbled and excited to be chosen," commented Riggleman.
Riggleman and Farley will be presented with their awards by O'Connell in front of over 4,000 coaches at the ABCA annual convention which will be held January 6-9th, 2011 in Nashville, TN.
