Spring Arbor University senior forward Kristin Abbott was named as a NAIA third team All American in women's soccer yesterday in a release from the NAIA national office.
Abbott, who enjoyed the best season of her four year career as a Cougar, finished the fall with 17 goals and sixteen assists including five goals and an assist in Kissimmee, Florida last week where she helped her team bring home their first ever National Christian College Athletic Association national championship.
Abbott was named as the tournament's most valuable player for her efforts.
The Troy, Michigan native also led Spring Arbor to an MCC conference tournament championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament, where the Cougars fell to eventual quarter-finalists Robert Morris University.
"Kristin had a fantastic senior season," commented Spring Arbor University head coach Jason Crist. "Her ability to break down defenders and run at opposing defenses is unrivaled in the teams we faced this fall. She is equally adept at scoring goals or finding her teammates and plays the game in a very creative and joyful way. Kristin is a huge piece of our attack and will be very difficult to replace."
Abbott totaled 42 goals and 39 assists over her four year career with Spring Arbor, placing her third all time on the SAU goal scoring list. Her 123 career points also sits third in SAU history. Spring Arbor posted a 63-19-9 record overall with Abbott on the field.
