NAIA TOURNAMENT NEWS The Marian Knights finished the NAIA Tournament as a member of the Elite Eight. The Knights defeated Belhaven (MI) 63-46. The 46 points is a new tournament record for fewest points allowed. In the second round, Marian defeated Notre Dame (CA) 68-54. In the 3rd round, Rio Grande (OH) defeated Marian 83-62 to end Marian's tournament run. Northwestern (IA) won the NAIA Tournament Title. David Porter (Huntington College) was named to the NAIA Division 2 First team All-American Team. Doug Pardue (Marian College) was named to the 2nd team. Ben Meyer (University of St Francis), was honored on the 3rd team. Matt Abernethy (Grace College), Jeremy Budreau (Goshen College), Alan Jones (Taylor University), and Mitch Smith (University of St Francis) were named as Honorable Mention All-Americans. NAIA Men's Basketball Scholar-Athletes Player of the Year David Porter Huntington College Co-Newcomer of the Year Matt Abernethy Grace College Ricky Gooden Bethel College Co-Coach of the Year Dwight Gingerich Goshen College John Grimes Marian College In the recent NAIA Division 2 final rankings, Marian finished at the 4th ranked time.
